A War We Just Might Win
MICHAEL E. O’HANLON and KENNETH M.
POLLACK of the Brookings institute published in the New York Times today an
article thusly titled. (See above) Preface, an integral facet in the following
revelations must be that it is well known, “among political scholars” that the
Brookings Institute has traditionally leaned center left in the political
spectrum. O’Hanlon and Pollack have also been extremely vocal in their
opposition to the conduct of this war by the Bush administration. O’Hanlon is
also on record stating, “I am a hardcore Democrat.” Juxtaposed is the article
written wherein both conclude, “Here is the most important thing Americans need
to understand: We are finally getting somewhere in Iraq, at least
in military terms. As two analysts who have harshly criticized the Bush
administration’s miserable handling of Iraq, we were surprised by the gains
we saw and the potential to produce not necessarily “victory” but a sustainable
stability that both we and the Iraqis could live with.” They continued by
writing, “Today, morale is high. The soldiers and marines told us they feel that
they now have a superb commander in Gen. David Petraeus; they are confident in
his strategy, they see real results, and they feel now they have the numbers
needed to make a real difference.” Factoid: General Petraeus
co-authored a
counterinsurgency
field manual - U.S. Army Field Manual on Tactics,
Intelligence, Host Nation Forces and Air Power. In English: He wrote the book
and from all accounts he is another Patton, without the Ivory handled revolvers
and of yet hasn’t slapped anyone. We’re hoping he does and quick.
Add to
the mix a series of articles written by John Burns, the well respected
Baghdad bureau
chief for the New York Times. As the, “surge” surged, Burns has began a baby
step 180. His latest conclusion is that the, “surge” is showing great promise
and needs to be given a chance.
As
these literary events unfold you can almost hear the collective Democratic,
“sphincter pucker.” Democrats are not just invested in the defeat of this
country by this enemy, they own it. Harry Reid, Democrat Nevada, on the floor of
the Senate stated, “This War Is Lost.” Russ Feingold, Democrat Wisconsin, On Fox
News Sunday concluded, “The surge isn’t working.” Neither have been to
Iraq since the surge began
and their military expertise is as questionable as Paris Hiltons virginity.
Alright
my friends, what’s the point? We have left leaning, military correspondents,
well respected in their field telling us that there is good news from
Iraq. The surge shows promise.
Postulated from the military commanders on the ground, is a concurrence of
opinion and in Washington we have the Democratic leadership
crying foul.
Diametric
opposition of opinion yet, who is most qualified to make this judgment, the
commanders in the field and the combat journalists who are within the theater of
operations or the Democratic leadership setting behind a desk in an air
conditioned office in Washington. Look folks, for the Democrats this is about
2008 and the Presidential election. The extreme left in the Democratic Party
wants out of Iraq, repercussions be damned. The
elected Democratic leadership will sell out this country and all it stands for
to gain power in the upcoming election. War is hell.
On
April 30th, 1975 the capitol city of South Vietnam, Saigon fell to communist
North
Vietnam and their communists backers. Richard
Nixon negotiated the peace between the North Vietnamese and their counterparts
to the south. The terms of this 1973 peace agreement prohibited the North
Vietnamese from crossing into South Vietnam proper and continued
dialogue between the two warring factions. Regrettably Nixon was taken out by a
Democratic congress to get even for his revelations attending Alger Hiss. Once
Nixon was out of the way Ford was a marked man and he knew it. Though he did beg
the Democratic congress to, at least monetarily support the government of
South
Vietnam the Democrats, “as usual” opted for
defeat.
Saigon fell.
What followed in Southeast Asia was re-education camps, boat people, two million
dead in Cambodia, torture, inhumanity on a
scale not seen since WW2 and a Democratic party emboldened. Present day: The
Democrats want a twofer. Conservatives want to win. Now that they are faced with
defections from their own left, will they have the brass to continue their
despotic revival?
